Rathfriland YFC take part in John Bradley challenge thumbnailRachael McMinn, Debra McBride, Jessica Wright, Jennie Kane and Victoria Herron at the John Bradley Challenge.

MEMBERS of Rathfriland Young Farmers including Victoria Herron, Jennie Kane, Debra McBride, Jessica Wright and Rachael McMinn recently travelled across the country to take part in the annual John Bradley Challenge in The Share Centre, Lisnaskea.
This year the task was to build a chariot from supplied materials and then race it around a specially designed course, which included jumps and travelling under camouflage net. In addition, as much water as possible had to be carried to the finish line in order to win; this meant that a few people got slightly wet!
Each team was given a certain amount of time to build their chariot and prepare for other activities such as designing a shield to represent the team, creating a short advertisement for the chariot and adding an item of "bling" to the chariot.
Rathfriland YFC started the race in the third row and as soon as the race began there was a mad rampage of chariots which resulted in the clashing of wheels and ankles! Everyone there had a great night's craic. Bring on next year's challenge!
Next on the agenda for Rathfriland YFC was the 45th annual Rally Day in Banbridge Rugby Club. This year the theme for the day was "The Oscars". There was a busy line up of fun filled activities such as Slippery Football, Picture Perfect, The Sound of Music and Once You Pop You Can't Stop to name just a few.
Then it was time to watch the entertaining slide shows which every club had prepared. Each club had been given a specific Oscar winning film star to base their slide show on, this year Rathfriland's celebrity was Jeff Bridges.
After this, there were more rally challenges such as rolling round bales and racing a "homemade" buggy, everyone enjoyed participating in the activities but it was time to tuck into a tasty burger from the barbeque after such a busy day!
Of course, no rally day would be complete without the final competition; It's a Knockout, where everyone got well and truly soaked!
A big congratulations to Rathfriland's very own Victoria Herron who was announced the 2010 Pinta Princess. Every club in County Down nominates a female member who then undergoes an interview and they are asked several questions about their involvement with the YFC.
This year's judges were YFCU Vice President's Martyn Blair and Phillip Richardson who were highly impressed with Victoria's commitment and enthusiasm for both Rathfriland YFC and County Down YFC in her new role as county secretary.
Victoria will now be an ambassador for YFCU and will attend the Miss MACRA competition representing County Down later this year.
