Anchors away for filming of battleship scenes in Game of Thrones thumbnailA replica ship can be seen in these images from the Game of Thrones set near Corbet outside Banbridge.

THERE was a hive of activity near Corbet last week as a somewhat familiar sight was spotted at the film studios.

Our eagle-eyed photographer took advantage of their prime aerial location having seen this Game of Thrones set being erected in the rural film site.

The castle facade and ship are resonant of what was used in the same location last year and continue to add to the air of excitement locally as scenes from the hugely successful show are recorded here.

Just weeks ago there was a flurry of excitement in Hilltown when snow was spotted in a number of fields near Kinnahalla.

Men on horseback were at the scene as well as lorries, cranes and a host of structures were set up for filming series seven of the critically-acclaimed show.

The arrival of crew and potentially some of the show's stars continues to generate interest in South Down, with Hilltown and Rathfriland residents taking a trip to Kinnahalla and Corbet to see if they can spot their favourite characters, or even the less-desirable white walkers.

It is not known how pivotal the scenes recorded in the South Down locations will be when the new series airs, but fans continue to enjoy spotting the sets when they pop up.
