No scrum job for Jonny as he wins top referee thumbnail Jonny Erskine is presented with his Ulster Rugby Referee of the Year award by rugby legend, Rory Best.

A BANBRIDGE Academy teacher has received a prestigious accolade as he was named the Ulster Rugby Referee of the Year.

Nine years ago, with a promising teaching career ahead of him at Banbridge Academy, Jonny Erskine came to refereeing and did so from his adopted club of Banbridge .

After just four years his singular talent pushed him onto the IRFU national panel, where he has steadily climbed for the past five years.

For Ulster he has refereed the finals of the Junior Cup, the Senior Cup, the Mc- Cambley, the Miler Wylie, the Foster Cup.

For the IRFU he has refereed England v France U18 and B&I cup games and AR'd for Pro 12, B&I Cup, Challenge Cup and Champions Cup, as well as being sent by Ireland to the Rugby School International 7s.
