Castle Street road works due to begin next week thumbnailROAD WORKS on Castle Street in Rathfriland are set to commence next week.

Work is soon to commence on Castle Street in Rathfriland.

The improvements had been due to be carried out last year, but were put back after concerns were raised by the local primary school that it would be an inconvenience to parents.

UUP Alderman Elizabeth Ingram welcomed the work.

"This work is planned to take place in Castle Street during the last two weeks of August.

"I have lobbied Roads Service over the last 18 months to have this much-needed resurfacing done in this area.

"These works were programmed to take place in 2016 during school attendance times, which was most unsuitable and would have meant total traffic chaos due to diversions.

"Having been contacted by staff from Iveagh Primary School to have this work arranged at a school holiday time, I was happy to liaise with Roads Service and they agreed to postpone the works to a more suitable time.

"I know this street closure will mean inconvenience to many members of the public, but I would ask that during this time of traffic diversion in the area that road users will comply with diversion routes until the work is completed," she said.
