New date for Annaclone GP.

Wednesday, 7 March 2018

IT HAS been confirmed the Annaclone GP will now take place on Monday, 19 March starting at 12pm from outside the Hawthorne Inn.

The popular annual cycling event was meant to be held last Saturday (3 March) however the extreme weather forced organisers to cancel the race.

The Banbridge CC promoted Travers Engineering Annaclone GP was set to open the Irish road racing season.

The main attraction of the day will be the 'A' race catering for A1, A2 and A3 category riders, which covers 80km.

The 'B' race will cater for A4 men and A3 women in a massed start event, starting just after the 'A' race and will cover 65km.

Both races are expected to have a full field of 80 riders, with the 'B' race finishing at approximately 1.45pm and the 'A' race finishing shortly after, at approximately 2.15pm.

The route will take the riders from the Ardbrin/ Tanvally Road crossroads to Ritchies Bridge, where they take a sharp left onto the B10/Monteith Road.

Once over the long drag at May's Corner they will descend into the Diamond junction, where another sharp left will take them to Katesbridge via the Greenhill Road.

At Katesbridge they will enter the final leg of the circuit where they rejoin the Ardbrin Road for the final climb up to the Hawthorn Inn.

Delays for local traffic are to be expected on the circuit between 11.30am and 3pm.

The winner of the 'A' race will have the honour of having their name etched onto the Eddie Sands Memorial Cup. The memorial cup has been kindly donated by the Sands family following the sad passing of Eddie in 2016.

Eddie was one of the co-founders of Banbridge CC in 1944 and remained a dedicated and loyal member of the club until his passing.
