Shock at death on farm

THE community of Katesbridge was shocked to learn of the death of a 22-year-old man at a premises on the Kinallen Road on Friday (4 May) morning.
Mr Toirdealbhach Larkin from Bessbrook, South Armagh was fatally injured while erecting an outbuilding on a farm.
It is understood he was working alone at the time of the accident, shuttering a wall when a concrete slab fell on him.
He was the son of Sinn Fein Councillor for the Slieve Gullion area, Mickey Larkin.
A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police attended a sudden death at a farm in the Katesbridge area on Friday. The Health and Safety Executive has been informed".
Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service had three appliances from both Katesbridge and Rathfriland Fire Stations dispatched at 10.16am on Friday morning.
The father-of-three's funeral took place yesterday (Monday, 7 May) with his remains leaving his mother's (Sandra McCartney) residence, 8B Dominic Street, Newry at 12.15pm for 12.30pm Requiem Mass in St Catherine's Chapel and burial in St Mary's Cemetery.
Mourne Sinn Fein Councillor Sean Doran was in attendance at Mr Larkin's funeral.
"I was very sorry to hear about the news on Friday afternoon. Mickey is a good colleague and friend of mine and it is just tragic what has happened to his son; a young father out doing a days work, it is very sad," he told The Outlook.
The farm that Mr Larkin was working on is owned by Mr Willie Doyle, whose father is a first cousin to SDLP Councillor Seamus Doyle.
Councillor Doyle, who lives close to where the fatality occurred said the "whole community are very shocked that such a tragic accident happened in the area."
"I would like to extend my sympathies to the whole Larkin family who have lost their son, brother, partner and father.
"It is very sad that someone so young has died as a result of another farming accident.
"More and more accidents are happening on farms and I firmly believe that the Health and Safety Executive need to do more to address this issue and better educate people on the potential dangers."
Also commenting on the tragedy was Newry and Armagh Sinn Fein MLA Megan Fearon, who added: "I am shocked and deeply saddened at the news of the tragic death of Toirdealbhach.
"The thoughts and prayers of all are with his family as they come to terms with the news of his tragic death and I extend my condolences to them on behalf of myself and Sinn Fein."
Mr Larkin is survived by his partner Aoife, baby son Thomas and daughters Scarlett and Lily-Mae.
His mother and father, grandmother and his brothers and sisters; Tanya, Peter, Charlene, Caoilfhionn, Tiarnán, Lochlainn, Sedanta, Conor, Shea, Lyndon, Oisín, Ruairí, Conall and Cillian and the extended family circle.
