SUPPORTERS of Kilkeel remember quality Irish Senior Cup matches at Macauley Park, amongst which Banbridge (5-4) and Monkstown (5-4) stand out. Well, add this match to those as this proverbial game of two halves had everything.
The visitors (who had travelled up the previous day) began the game on the front foot, gleaning a penalty corner in the first minute from which Jacob Webber had a shot kept out by keeper Sam Morris.
Colin Holmes produced an excellent tackle to defuse YM's next thrust from Bjorn Borg lookalike Michael Fry.
Probing runs from William Annett and David Robinson caused problems for the respective rearguards before Will Powderly passed to Robinson who shot just wide in the eighth minute.
A minute later the lead goal arrived, Michael Fry, Cliff Bailey and David Robinson being involved with the latter netting from close range.
The visitors notched their second in the 18th minute when Rob Whelan won a somewhat fortuitous penalty corner from which Simon Mills fed Andrew Walker who scored.
Keith Bingham produced his first long dribble of the match and a minute later a William Annett shot was brilliantly kept out by Ireland squad member Iain Walker.
Play swung to the other half with Will Powderly passing to David Robinson whose shot was saved by Sam Morris with Colin Holmes completing the clearance.
Eight minutes from half time William Annett earned Kilkeel a penalty corner from which Brian Niblock shot just wide. Keith Bingham then flashed a shot narrowly wide.
