Honour for Ballyvally

Honour for Ballyvally thumbnailBallyvally Chairman, Mr Frank Mulligan, starting to plan out the archery course for the NI Archery Championships in the grounds of Loughbrickland House.

IN 2012, Ballyvally Archery Club will be hosting three major Northern Ireland Archery Tournaments.
At the end of March the club will be hosting both the Junior and Senior Indoor championships - the first time the club has done both. These will take place in Banbridge Leisure Centre.
In April, the club will host the Northern Ireland Field archery Championships in the grounds of Loughbrickland House, courtesy of Dr Jean Whyte. The NIAS Championships were hosted in 2011 by Lough Cuan archers in the grounds of Ballywalter Estate, Co. Down.
Given that Ballyvally hosted the All British and Open field Championships at Castlewellan Forest Park in May 2011 and the Irish Section of the British Barebow Championships in November 2011 that means the club will have hosted four major archery events in a year.
2012 sessions
Club members are reminded the three Wednesday sessions start again on Wednesday, 4 January in Banbridge Leisure Centre at 3.30pm, 4.30pm and 6.30pm.
Club members who shoot in the five sessions on Thursdays (between 3.30pm and 10.30pm) are reminded that their sessions will start on Thursday, 12 January as the floor in the main hall of the leisure Centre is being resealed on Thursday, 5 and Friday, 6 January.
In preparation for the 2012 outdoor season and the five championships coming up, the round shot will change from the Olympic round before Christmas to the International FITA Round.
Beginners who would like to have a go at an ancient sport to try something new for 2012 are asked to contact club chairman Frank Mulligan on 406 23748, where all equipment and coaching will be available.
Scotland
Early in the new year, the club will be starting to finalise names for the trip to Scotland at the end of April.
This will be to shoot in the Scottish Open near Glencoe and hopefully the weather will be as good as last year. As a preparation for Scottish and the other five championships, members are invited to help with the preparations on Saturday morning, 7 January at Castlewellan Forest.
