LOCAL trainers and jockeys were well to the fore at last Saturday's marathon 11 race card at the Iveagh point to point at Maralin.
Cabra Jockey Noel McParlan set the ball rolling for the locals with a win on Kilvergan Boy in the opening first division of the four year old maiden. Noel took the 12/1 shot to the front three fences from home and although making a slight mistake at the last, easily held off a challenge from Fast Gun with the fast finishing Valgray and Colin Mother way a further one and half lengths back in third place.
Kivergan Boy is trained by Gerry Cosgrave from Banbridge, Jamie Codd took the riding honours with a treble on the day, getting off the mark in the second division of the first race.
Keeping Johnnyofcourse always up with the leaders, before asserting approaching the last, coming home for a comfortable victory to give Downpatrick trainer Brian Hamilton his second win of the season.
Trainer Hamilton went on to complete a double at the fixture with Da Hammy taking the first division of the last race by 10 lengths, this one ridden by John Daniel Moore. Poyntzpass jockey James Smyth scored his first win of the new campaign when Mat Hill owned by his father Patrick Smyth, took the second division of the five year old geldings maiden.
Smyth took his mount to the front five fences from home and dispite a mistake at the last , still managed to win by 12 lengths. Codd went on to complete His treble on Tofino Bay in the 5 year old geldings race and then took the open on Model Son for local trainer Peter Magill. Warrenpoint jockey Mark O'Hare got off the mark for the season when Zaffman trained at Crumlin by Ian Duncan, won the second division of the six year old and upwards geldings maiden.
Newry Trainer Liam Lennon notched his second win of the season when Tiveny Tyne and Mark Quinlan won the second division of the winners of one.
