Lorcan lifts Ulster title thumbnailCoaches Kevin Sheppard and George Lavery with Ulster Champion, Lorcan Sloan.

FIFTEEN-year-old Rathfriland boxer, Lorcan Sloan added his name to the list of champions in the club by winning the Ulster Novice Title at Youth 1 57kg in Newry on Sunday, 30 October.

His opponent from Wattlebridge, Monaghan proved to be a durable lad, as Lorcan threw plenty of combinations from his south paw stance, with the young Monaghan boxer pressing the whole time.

This tactic seemed to suit Lorcan as he was able to throw his back hand followed up by his right hook and pivot off, catching his opponent every time. It was a super display by Lorcan who trains hard and attends training regularly, proving you only get out what you put in.

The club's attention turns to the Boy/Girl 123 Ulster Open Championship this weekend in Burnfoot, Donegal where they will have six boxers entering.

Jack Maginn, Odhran Clancy, Shay Lavery, Aodhan Cunningham, Daniel Waugh and Paul Travers will be making the long trip on Saturday morning. Good luck to them.
