Karate club leads the way thumbnailMembers of Banbridge and Rathfriland Karate Clubs celebrating success after collecting more medals than any other club in the province, with a total of 54 - 18 gold, 21 silver and 15 bronze medals.

BANBRIDGE and Rathfriland Clubs have yet again proven to be the top club in the country by lifting more medals than any other club in the north, with a total of 18 gold, 21 silver and 15 bronze, leaving the local fighters top of the table once more.

Lucy McAvoy was the star of the day lifting three Northern Ireland titles on her own. That makes her the top female karate-ka in the whole of Northern Ireland.

Nikkala Pokojski was not far behind with two golds and a silver with some very impressive karate in this prestigious event. Ollie Small was also on target by winning two golds on the day and is one to watch in the future.

Other club members who became Northern Ireland champions with outstanding performances were Ben Robinson, Ellie Morteboy, Sasha McAvoy, Arlene Steenson, Ronan Broderick, Indigo Rose Wilson, Neil Wilson, Rachel McDonnell, Sam Mawhinney, Joseph McCreesh and Kyle Morgan, who has become the Senior Northern Ireland Champion.

Silver medal winners were Hanna-Rose Grady winning an amazing three medals with Sam Mawhinney lifting two silver to add to his gold.

Rachel McDonnell lifted two silver to go along with her Northern Ireland medal. Sasha McAvoy was the same with two silver to add to her Northern Ireland medal.

Mathew Devlin came home with two silver medals with James Simpson, Ryan Murray, Nikkala Pokojski, Ellie Morteboy, Rihanna Proctor, Dara Sowerby, Caimohe Hardy-Lester, Morgan Steenson, Ben Robinson and Stephen Ligget.

Bronze medallists were James O'Hare, Ellie Campbell, Morgan Steenson, Anna Mae Samuel, Stephen Ligget, Joseph McCreesh, Aoibeen Hardy Lester, Irene Ding, Ryan Murray, Daniel Watt, Ellie Morteboy, Rihanna Proctor, Ollie Small and Arlene Steenson.
