Archer Mark on target in prestigious tournaments thumbnailMark Nesbitt at the ‘Kings of Archery’ tournament in November held in Holland.

BALLYVALLY archer Mark Nesbitt has been on a roll for the last two weekends. First competing in the 'Kings of Archery' tournament in November held in Holland, where over 85 of Europe's top archers competed for the 'Kings of Archery' crown.

Mark finished a very respectable second place, edging out Rick Van Der Ven to fourth place. Rick Van Der Ven competed in the 2012 London Olympics, where he came fourth in the Men's Recurve.

The 'Kings of Archery' competition attracted a large audience, estimated at over 7,000 viewers both watching in the finals venue and online.

Mark continued his success in December by competing in the British Indoor Championships held in Stoneleigh, near Birmingham by ranking first in the qualification round.

There were over 180 Gents Recurve archers competing, which also contained archers just back from the Rio Olympics and the Indoor World Cup Series. Mark competed with the top 32 ranked archers to finish second overall in the Men's Recurve in a tightly-fought final.

This has rounded off a very successful year for Mark after coming 11th in the World Field Archery Championships in October.

Mark wasn't the only Ballyvally archer to have success at the British Indoor Championships.

Jake Walsh added the British Senior indoor title to his list of achievements, as well as first place in the U/18 Junior Gents Compound.

Paul McConville also picked up a bronze in the U/16 Junior Gents Compound and Andrea Murray-Lopez picked up a silver for the U/18 Junior Ladies Recurve.

To top off the weekend Jake, Paul and Andrea along with another Northern Ireland archer, Charlotte McCleery from the East Belfast Club, were selected to form a team which came first and won the Home Nations competition for Northern Ireland, seeing off England, Scotland and Wales - making them the Home Nations champions.
