BANBRIDGE Town AFC were stunned by a Rathfriland Rangers Reserve side, which was determined to pick up all three points.

The game started with instant pressure from Rathfriland, however Banbridge stood strong for the first 25 minutes until the deadlock was broken, when S Stewart scrambled the ball into the back of the net from a dangerous corner, which was initially won by a strong leap from Morton.

Rathfriland continued to pressure the Banbridge goal, and it paid off when they got a second just before the break, with a complete rerun of the first goal, a corner won by Morton and scrambled home by Stephen Stewart.

Banbridge regrouped at half time and came out pushing for a comeback, however two goals in quick succession put an end to that.

Rathfriland then had to change Morton because of a tight hamstring and this led to them going three at the back and pushing for more goals.

This led to the flood gates opening and a long day for Banbridge who were pinned back for the remainder of the game.

A hat-trick for S Stewart and a goal dry Maine, two from Frazer, an own goal, one from Clydesdale and a great free kick from A Stewart led to an 11 nil romp.

Gracey in nets didn't have much to do all day, but he was called into action in the dying minutes and pulled off a world class save to keep a clean sheet.

Although not getting on the scoresheet, McComish and Tumilty both had great games creating a number chances for the goalscorers to put away.

All-in-all a good performance from a strong Rathfriland squad who played fluent football from defence to attack until the final minute.
