Five riders in busy weekend of racing thumbnailThe A3 class sets off in the Annaclone GP organised by Banbridge Cycling Club. The annual cycling event was held on Saturday, 18 February.

WITH the Open Race Season just started, West Down Wheelers had five riders involved in a packed weekend of races.

On Saturday, four riders headed to Annaclone to take part in Banbridge CC Travers Engineering races, Paul Wilkinson, Clive Adamson, Ian Weir and Brandon Douglas.

It was a day of mixed performances with Brandon and Ian competing in the A3s, although Brandon had mechanical problems, and Ian found the going tough when the top riders in the country bridged the gap over to them.

Nonetheless, well done to the both of them as they both rode well, before Brandon and Ian both had to retire. Clive rode well in the A4s, although he has stated this is his last year of Open Racing.

Paul (Wilkie) rode an absolutely fantastic race to finish 13th, this was some result up against the best riders in the country. So from the Wheelers it's a massive well done guys.

On Sunday the same riders, less Clive, but Dave joining them as they headed to race in the Phoenix GP. Going by the reports, the four of them all rode good races. Unfortunately Brandon was involved in a crash and had to go to hospital for treatment. It's hoped it's a speedy recovery for him.

It's fantastic the racing season has started again and it's super we have riders racing every week now and will do very well. Next week they are all in action gain and will be joined by Matt and Thomas making his first appearence in an Open Race and this has given us an added bonus and more interest.

The club racing doesn't start until April and riders are putting in the miles so should be another fantastic year's racing again.
