Valley’s dozen!

Wednesday, 1 March 2017

THE Reserves ran riot at Bignian Park on Saturday afternoon with six goals either side of half time, in a performance that has been threatening to come to fruition in the last couple of weeks.

McNeill could have had Valley two up before Hamilton headed in Ardis' corner.

McNeill soon got himself on the scoreboard rolling in after being played in by Hanna and Hanna then ghosted by a player on the touchline, before picking out Parke who fired into the top corner.

Ballymacash forced Annett into a couple of good saves before Hamilton burst through and rounded the 'keeper and coolly finished.

Ardis then got on the scoresheet after good work by Hamilton and Annett's long kick found McNeill, who made it six at the half.

McNeill got another two at the start of the second half nodding in and poking in at the far post before Ardis tapped in a square ball for nine before the hour.

Even Johnston, bursting forward from full back and Hanna from midfield were threatening to get on the scoresheet.

The Valley took their foot off the gas a touch and were happy to play possession football for periods with King and Hanna dictating.

The final 10 minutes saw another flurry of goals as Cowan headed home an Ardis corner and then likewise from a Cranston corner from the other side.

Hamilton tied things up with a fine strike with the outside of his boot from the edge of the area.

This was a much more clinical performance from the Valley as they turned possession into goalscoring opportunities.

Ballymacash need to be commended as they fought right to the final whistle without stopping, on what was just one of those days when everything went right for the Valley.

In particular the Valley's creative trio of Ardis, Parke and Hamilton were excellent playing in pockets that made them extremely difficult to pick up, with McNeill up top being too strong and too quick to handle.

Next up for the Reserves is a trip to the Showgrounds to face league leaders Newry.
