Freya jumps for joy with squad place thumbnailSix-year-old Dynamic club gymnast selected for top NI gymnastics squad

FREYA Coffey from Dynamic Gymnastics Club has been selected for the Northern Ireland Women's Artistic Gymnastics Squad.

Coaches Nadia McAleavey and Alanna Andrews took six-year-old Freya to the squad trials on Sunday, 5 February in Newry where she had to perform a number of skills on the floor, beam, bars and vault apparatus.

Joining talented gymnasts from all over Northern Ireland, Freya will now begin her pathway to becoming an elite gymnast for Northern Ireland.

Head coach Nadia McAleavey, a former Northern Ireland and Ireland squad gymnast herself, said: "I am so proud of Freya, I know how much hard work and determination she has put in to achieving her goals, I know what it takes to train at the top level of the sport.

“We are so proud of her at Dynamic Gymnastics Club and we wish her every success for the future."

Club coach Alanna Andrews, a former squad and county gymnast, said she was also very proud of Freya.

“She is a future little star in the making," she said.
