All Ireland final place for Mollie thumbnail Georgia Lavery and Mollie Shepard in Dublin.

TWELVE-YEAR-OLD Mollie Shepard stormed her way into the All Ireland final this Friday night (19 May).

The Rathfriland ABC boxer secured her place with a comprehensive victory over a tough Dublin opponent on Saturday, 6 May at the National Stadium.

Mollie controlled the contest from the opening bell, landing some stiff back hands followed up with accurate hooks to cruise to a 5-0 victory.

This is the second season Rathfriland ABC has had a boxer in the All Ireland final, following Paul Travers' successful season last year.

"We hope Mollie can go one step further and clinch the newly re-formed club its first title," said Bobby Lavery.

Also in the semi-final on Saturday (6 May) was 13-year-old Georgia Lavery, who boxed one of the contests of the day against St Monica's Amy Lee Kelly, from Newry.

Both girls left everything in the ring with the contest going down to the last round as it was tied at one apiece.

Unfortunately it slipped away from Georgia as Kelly's fitness came to the fore .

"The club is proud of Georgia's display, and we have no doubt it will bode well for the future," said Bobby.

The club recently held a junior show to finish off their season, where everyone got a match with some terrific talent on show.

"Everyone has put great effort in this season and have improved significantly.

"We handed out our annual awards on the day where Bobby-Shea McNulty was Boxer of the Month for April.

"Most Improved Boxer was Callum McAlinden, while Boxer of the Year went to Liam Grant.

"The junior section will start again on Monday, 4 September from 7pm to 8.15pm and is for eight to 10-year-olds.

"We hope all the kids enjoy the summer break . " Meanwhile senior training continues on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 8.30pm, where everyone is training hard as there is plenty of club shows coming up.

There are also two championships in June, the 03/04 boys Irish cadets and the Northern Ireland boys and girls club.
