THIS year, 15-year-old motorcycle racer Sam Laffins, from Dromara is racing in the Santander KTM RC 390 CUP Championship at the British Superbike (BSB) rounds in England and Scotland.

Dromara is of course well known as the home town of the famous Dromara Destroyers and Sam is delighted that well-known local road racer, Raymond McCullough has given Sam permission to race with Raymond's replica helmet design.

Sam, a Dromore High School student, is part of Team ILR (Ian Lougher Racing) mentored by the team owner, Ian Lougher.

Well-known local riders British Superbike stars Glenn Irwin, Jeremy McWilliams and Andy Reid, have also been giving Sam advice and doing track walks with him when he competed at Donington Park and Brands Hatch last April.

On Saturday, 20 May, Sam took pole position at Bishopscourt in the Junior Cup Championship and went on to do the double by winning both his races.

Last year, at only 14 years old at the Sunflower International Trophy Race at Bishopscourt, Sam set a new lap record in the 300 production class where he finished second in his first race and went on to win the second race.

Sam is sponsored by Tooltec (HW) Ltd, Jordan Concrete, Geoghegan Conservatory, Carnbrooke Meats, Bradford Haulage, JH Engineering, James Martin Apparel & Promotion, Automised Art NI, Mcstitched Leathers, The Battery Man and Raymond & Freddie (Tyre Sponsor).

Sam will be competing at the British Superbike (BSB) race meeting at Knockhill (Scotland) from Friday, 16 to Sunday, 18 June.

After the Knockhill race meeting Sam will be racing at the BSB race meeting at Snetterton (July), Cadwell Park (August), Silverstone (September), Oulton Park (September) and Brands Hatch (October).

The young rider will conclude a year's racing as he takes part in the home round at the Sunflower International Trophy race meeting at Bishopscourt at the end of October.
