Cornerstone Cycle Club have launched their inaugural challenge which will cover scenic views of Spelga and Slieve Croob.

The 'Century Challenge' cycling event takes place on Saturday, 24 June and two routes are available for cyclists to choose from.

Route one is a 100km to 3600ft climbing challenge including Spelga and Slieve Croob.

Meanwhile, the second route is a 65km to 1800ft climbing challenge that will cover mostly the same route but without the Spelga and Slieve Croob climbs.

Starting at 9.30am from Rathfriland Community Centre, the route weaves its way to Hilltown towards Spelga, descending into Dundrum for the first stop before turning back towards Leitrim and the second stop.

Here the routes split with the first route heading for Slieve Croob, Dromara and Banbridge, before turning back and meeting the second route at Moneyslane.

Both routes then make their way back to Rathfriland avoiding the climb into the town.

Registration and refreshments will start at 8.30am in Rathfriland Community Centre before a mass start at 9.30am.

Refreshments will be provided before, during and after the challenge and finishers will collect a goodie bag on their return.

Usual precautions will be taken with good signage, marshals at major junctions, motorcycle out-riders to control traffic as necessary and a broom wagon to help with mechanical and collections if required.

Registration on the day will cost £15 and a Cycling Ireland Licence is required (day licence available at registration is £5).

The event will support the 'Home For Good' charity and all details and routes will be available via Cornerstone Cycle Club's Facebook page.
