Annaclone grit secures points in thriller thumbnailKevin Anderson breaks upfield to set up Ciaran Shields to point.

ANNACLONE and Liatroim delivered a thoroughly absorbing closely-fought encounter at Gaelic Park.

ACL Division 2

The Clone settled first with Ciaran Shields netting. Niall Fegan and Rory Simson pointed after driving runs from Gary McArdle and Conor McConville.

Liatroim responded with Pearse Og McCrickard and Liam Doyle who were instrumental as the gap closed.

Points were exchanged to leave it 1-3 to 0-6 at the break.

Liatroim threatened after the break but some alert Clone defending from John McIlroy and Colm Farrell clearing upfield saw roving engine-room Ciaran Greenan point.

Kevin Anderson combined with Sean O'Hare and James Fegan adding before Doyle and McCrickard replied.

Annaclone stretched their lead to five points with a brace from Ciaran Shields and a fisted point from Aidan McIlroy as Rory Simpson, Thomas Pyers, Gerald Farrell and Sean McAvoy excelled.

Annaclone should have added further scores and possibly fresh legs before the visitors fought back to two points.

Shields and Anderson combined for a nail-biting finish as two further Liatroim frees left it a single-point home win.
