A decade of Shimna Stars

AS Shimna Stars Special Olympics Club prepares to celebrate its 10th Anniversary the good news continues to roll in for the successful athletes and volunteers.
A successful application to Newry Mourne & Down District Council has resulted in the club being awarded 1,350 to continue with the development of Ladies Basketball within the area.
Following months to hard toil Shimna Stars have also successfully completed the Special Olympics Club Recognition Award and will be presented with their certificate in September. The award is based on the Club Mark Award and has been fully accredited by Sport NI.
Not to be outdone our athletes who have just completed a very competitive season during which all players were assessed for possible inclusion in the Team Ulster Basketball selection for the Special Olympics Summer Games 2018 have been awarded 6 places. The athletes selected are: Glenn McBride, Sean Brannigan, Liam Hennessy, Patrick Hennessy, David McCrum and Niall Rogan.
For Glenn this will be the third occasion on which he has been nominated as Olympian for Sean and Liam this will be their second successive games having also been selected in 2014, David, Niall and Patrick will be the new kids on the block for 2018 and all at Shimna Stars congratulate them and wish them all the best for the future.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary Shimna Stars SOC is delighted to announce that a special gala dinner will be held at the Burrendale Hotel at 7pm on Friday 13th October. The event is open to all athletes, family members, volunteers and friends of the club, both past and present, and will celebrate the club's many achievements over the past 10 years.
Tickets: 15 (includes 3 course meal and entertainment)
Dress code: As formal as you like!
We would be delighted to see as many friends, old and new, there as possible.
Tickets will be available to buy at club nights.
Following the summer break Shimna Stars SOC will resume training on Tuesday 5 September in Shimna Integrated College at 6.30pm. The annual collection to enhance club funds will take place on Saturday 28 October by kind permission of the management at Nisa FreshFood Centre Dublin Road Castlewellan details later.
