A KILKEEL schoolboy is taking part in this year's SuperCupNI, following in his late grandfather's footsteps.
Fourteen-year-old Ryan Dalzell is part of this year's Junior side in the former Milk Cup tournament.
The Kilkeel High School pupil, described as a "great wee footballer" is the grandson of the late Bobby Dalzell.
The competition kicked off yesterday (Monday) with Down facing Cherry Orchard at Porrtush. They play Antrim today (Tuesday) at 5pm at Ballymena Showgrounds.
Ryan, who plays as a goalkeeper, is taking his selection in the prestigious tournament all in his stride.
His proud sister, Heather told The Outlook that Ryan currently plays for Glentoran U15s.
“He used to play for Valley Rangers and was scouted at Linfield's ClubNI trials.
“He is now into his second year playing for Glentoran, having recently signed another contract."
Ryan also went for trials for Rangers but Heather says they have not yet heard anything back from there.
Ryan was asked to try out for the SuperCupNI team and was delighted when he made the squad, as he is actually a year younger than most of his team mates, as he is still 14 and most of them are 15.
“His granda (Bobby Dalzell) was a great footballer. It seemed to have skipped a generation with dad, but we know how proud granda would be of Ryan."
His parents Robert and Lavene and family are all making the trip up to the North Coast to watch Ryan partake in this tournament.
