New season for club with hopes for more boxing champions .

Wednesday, 30 August 2017

AS the new boxing season approaches, Rathfriland has been preparing by way of its recently held AGM and a new paint job in the club both inside and out.

Ex-Rathfriland coach Larry Sheppard has taken over from Brian Groves as president, with Brian quite possibly slotting into a busier role as funding officer.

Bobby and George Lavery stay in their positions as secretary and treasurer respectively. Committe members are Davie Mawhinny, Paudie Lynch, Kevin Sheppard, Auther Maginn and Ciaran Clancy.

The club would like to thank local painter Barry Sloan, who provided his services free of charge and painted the walls upstairs in the club. Thanks also go to the coaches who helped out in any way.

The 2017/18 season commenced on Monday, 4 September at 7pm to 8.15pm for Juniors (8-10 years) and 8pm to 9.15pm for Seniors (11 years upwards).

Junior membership is 10 for the season (September to April inclusive) with subs at 3 per week paid on Monday nights.

Senior membership (September to June inclusive) 20 paid in two instalments - 10 September and 10 January. Subs are 3 per week again paid on Monday nights. Any family with three or more boxers at the club it will be 7.50 per week.

The club thanks everyone in the community for the continued support and would welcome any new sponsorship or donations to help them keep the doors open for all who use the club.

Here's to an enjoyable incoming season, where they hope to produce more champions.
