IT IS the 87th minute, the Gers are losing 3-1 in the Intermediate Cup after a trek to Larne to take on Wellington Rec last Saturday.

Wellington Rec...3
Banbridge Rangers...4

Fast forward to the full-time whistle and the blues are walking off the pitch victorious after a three-goal haul in under five minutes to seal an unbelievable comeback.

The game was barely 20 minutes old when Colin Cousins gave Banbridge Rangers a deserved lead, taking advantage of a defensive mistake.

In the 37th minute a shot from Wellington Rec was parried to their striker, who made no mistake to leave the scores at 1-1 going into the half-time break.

Wellington stunned Banbridge Rangers with a goal almost straight from the restart poking in at the near post from a low cross.

A similar move down the right hand side saw the Amateur League side score again on the hour mark, this time a header being finished after a move down the right hand side.

As the game wore on, it looked like it was going to be a frustrating afternoon, even with attacking players Colin Cunningham and Andy Mallen coming on to help breakdown a stubborn Wellington Rec side.

With three minutes to go, the match sparked to life when Coly Cousins curled in to make it 3-2 to Banbridge Rangers.

Before the 90 minutes were up the scores were level at 3-3 when Nathan Baird headed in a corner at the back post.

The Gers weren't content to go to extra time and in the second minute of stoppage time Colin Cunningham scored a superb individual effort, coasting past three players before finishing into the far corner to send the travelling supporters delerious.

Well done to the players who showed plenty of character to get the win in such dramatic circumstances and progress into the last 32 of the IFA Intermediate Cup.

This Saturday Banbridge Rangers host AFC Craigavon in the third round of the Marshall Cup at Cheney Park, before returning to league action the following week at home to Camlough Rovers.
