A MODERN new hub and gym was officially opened at the weekend at Glasdrumman GAC on the Quarter Road, Annalong.

The facility, which is open to the entire community, was made possible thanks to a grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

Club Chairperson, Gary McGreevy said this development was an important one for the community.

“Glasdrumman GAC is delighted to be able to bring this much-needed facility to the people of Glasdrumman, Annalong and further afield.

“The hub and gym will add another dimension to the diverse range of fitness and social programmes already offered by the club, and with membership costing only £10 per month, we look forward to seeing many new faces taking advantage of this great venue.

“The opening is the culmination of many months of hard work by local construction company, Glasgiven Contracts, committee members, club members and an army of volunteers, who have worked tirelessly to make this excellent provision available to everyone in the community.

“I would like to pay tribute to all involved for their dedication to the project and to the Big Lottery Fund for making this long-term dream a reality.”

Set in the wonderful surrounding of the Mournes, the gym at Glasdrumman GAC has something to suit all including weights stations, squat racks, cardio equipment and spin bikes.

Members can avail of 24/7 access with fob entry, spacious car parking and importantly a friendly atmosphere.

The club is an inclusive club which offers a variety of activities for the whole community including: a walking group, yoga, bingo, youth club and of course Gaelic football for children from pre-school through to adult football teams.

Membership for the gym is extremely good value and is available to anyone aged over 16.

The new facility will cater for a diverse range of groups and individuals within the local area. Anyone interested in joining the gym can contact Membership Officer Colette Burden on 07753863359 or check out Twitter @GlasdrummanGAC or Facebook.
