TEACHERS of Banbridge High School are currently fundraising to support a unique programme catering to the emotional and mental wellbeing of pupils.

Over the past year, a total of 60 students have received support from the school’s drop-in facility where they can attend a breakfast club, a nurture form class, and have access to a sensory room for self-regulation.

Speaking to The Outlook, Principal Katy Feeney and Head of the Pastoral Provision and Behaviour Support and Safeguarding Team Sarah Irwin, said they have seen massive strides in the pupils who partake in the programme.

Sarah stated: “Since the pupils have returned to school post-covid, we've seen a rise in students with high anxiety levels, and pupils with social and emotional well-being difficulties.

“We really felt that we needed to bring another layer of provision into the school to help our pupils access the learning as barriers were becoming more complex and more specific to each individual child."

As a result, Sarah will be taking on the ‘Goggins 4x4x48 challenge’ on Friday, 3 March. The challenge will require her to run four miles every four hours for 48 hours and some pupils will be getting involved and cheering their teacher on.
