TWO Mayobridge girls have achieved major success at this year’s Irish Dancing World Championship finals.
Eimear Gallagher and Sophie Sexton both attained the top titles in their respective age categories at the INEC Arena in Killarney.
To win this award once would be a major feat in itself, but it was neither girl's first time, as 10-year-old Sophie was defending her title from last year, and 14-year-old Eimear is the first girl to be named World Champion five times in a row.
Their dance teacher, Paula Gallagher, who is also Eimear’s mum, says the girls are setting standards for Irish dancing on a global scale.
She told The Outlook: “To win the world title once is absolutely amazing, but for Sophie to go back and defend her title is very difficult to do, even psychologically, but she did it."
