IN A remarkable show of community spirit and generosity, the family of a much-loved Drumgath man have raised an incredible £16,000 for a suicide prevention charity.

The McAvoy family and friends of the late Patrick (Paddy) McAvoy raised the magnificent total through a tractor run held on Saturday, 5 July, drawing crowds and participants from across the local area.

The event was organised as both a celebration of Patrick’s life and a powerful effort to support a cause close to the hearts of many.

The turnout exceeded all expectations, with tractors of all shapes and sizes lining the roads in tribute, reflecting the rural roots and warm community connections that defined Patrick's life.

Speaking after the event, Jenny, Patrick’s sister and main organiser of the event said the family were overwhelmed by the support received.

She said: “We wanted to do something that honoured Paddy’s memory in a way that brought people together—and that also made a real difference.

"The support from the community has been nothing short of amazing. We really want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the local community."

PIPS Hope & Support, which provides vital mental health and suicide prevention services across the region, has expressed heartfelt thanks to the organisers and all who contributed.

A spokesperson for PIPS said: “We are very grateful to Paddy’s family and friends for this incredible donation. Not only will these funds go a long way in supporting individuals and families in crisis, but events like this also play a crucial role in raising awareness and breaking the stigma around mental health and suicide.”
