Four riders who have had a great season in West Down Wheelers club races and open races (from left) Brandon Douglas, Paul Wilkinson, David Frizell and Ian Weir.
LAST Tuesday night (31 July) West Down Wheelers held what was mainly a club night.
It consisted of a two-up 10-mile TT on the Castlewellan Road on road bikes and it turned out a good night’s craic.
It wasn’t about partners of the same club, you could have went off with whom you preferred.
The fastest riders on the night were Nathan and Adam with a 23.
The good news was everyone seemed to enjoy it and there were a few who decided to go on their own and that was fine.
As this was only a club night for bit a craic, it was good the feedback was good.
There will be another two-up down to finish the season off on Tuesday, 4 September but to change it a little there will be a sprint up Gallbog with it finishing at Skeogh Hall.
This again will be on road bikes but anyone looking to do it on TT bike, that won’t be a problem.
This will finish the season off and should be good craic, so plan to be there.
John Maxwell Memorial Cup
Next week’s race (Tuesday, 14 August) is one of the most popular, if not the number one race on our calendar.
Starting on the Castlewellan Road riders will head to roundabout outskirts of Castlewellan and head back down same route to the start/finish line.
Club meeting
We will be having a meeting in the Albert in the next week or so, as we have to finalise our preparations for our GP next month.
Allister will also talk about what changes there will be to the kit, mostly back to the black shorts.
It’s a must that every member attends, when the date goes up if it doesn’t suit you let us know please.
End-of-season Saturday club ride
Once again when a date is chosen to suit most of the club, we will be having our end-of-season day out.
This is open all riders or anyone looking to know more about the club can come along to see what we are about.
We will pick a route with a tea stop somewhere along the road.
Charity runs over the weekend
There were four riders taking part in charity events at the weekend.
Clive was riding in Keevan’s 87-mile event and he ended up with 103 miles.
Wilkie and Dave achieved over the ton as well while Ian got 72 as they took part in Dromara’s hilly 100.
Busy week for our riders
As well as our last round of the road race series for the Imperial Cup on the Corbet course this Tuesday, we then head to Warrenpoint on Thursday night for the Eric Maxwell Memorial Cup.
This is our annual 10-mile TT, here’s hoping for good weather.
Foyle Stage Race
Brandon is competing in this, this time as a guest for Clann Eireann in the Big Stage Race, so good luck to him and the rest of the team.
Wilkie will be competing in the very tough John Beggs Memorial Race next weekend, promoted by Banbridge CC.
This is a very tough race with many riders giving this a miss, so good luck to all our riders.
