AT JUST 14-years-old, Rathfriland athlete Will Megaw is making impressive strides in his football career, as he has been selected to represent Northern Ireland at the Under 14 level.

The Banbridge Academy pupil is among a squad of 20, who are set to travel to Spain for the Albir Cup, where they will play three matches against Elche CF, Spain and Qatar.

This is just one of the many achievements for the talented teen, who first began playing football in the back garden as a toddler, then started at Rathfriland Youth where he has been coached from the age of six until 2024.

All the while, he has also been an avid fan of Liverpool FC!

After taking a period out when he broke his leg back in March 2023, Will recovered with immense determination and dedication to football and started the season with Glenavon FC in September 2024.

This hard work proved worthwhile, when two years on from his injury, he travelled as part of the NI squad to a tournament in England.

As well as his matches with NI in Spain, Will will also head to the Galway Cup with Glenavon and hopes to play in the NI Supercup in August of this year.

Will’s parents, Adrian (Rathfriland Football Club Chairman) and Dr Alison Megaw, his sister Lucy and brother Toby, along with their wider families are extremely proud of him and delighted that he will have this opportunity.

As he sets off for Spain next Monday (5 May), Will is grateful to all those who have in the past and who currently coach him for their dedication and commitment
